Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs) are community-based partnerships that:

  • Support community-level research and strategic planning; and,
  • Improve coordination of effective services that facilitate immigrant settlement and integration.

Local community partners from Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and Katzie make up a local Council that meets monthly to discuss integration issues and move towards a settlement strategy. To join the Council or for more information contact iss@familyed.bc.ca

Interfaith Bridging: This new and exciting project seeks to work with Diverse religious and cultural groups to come together and plan and implement Interfaith Bridging Dialogue series and Faith Tours through a monthly steering committee. Welcoming Communities: This project focuses on all parties having a common vision to support the integration of New Immigrants by building welcoming and inclusive communities as well as having the capacity to support intercultural relationships, inclusive workplaces, welcoming spaces, and improved access to services. The program provides the tools and equipment for community partners and New Immigrants to engage in dialogue and voice concerns and convey their needs so that inclusive and welcoming programs can exist. Safe Harbour: Safe Harbour: Respect for All is about a vision in action: creating opportunities for businesses, institutions, agencies, and municipalities to create respectful, welcoming workplaces and communities. Participants learn how to create a more inclusive workplace where employees, customers and clients of diverse backgrounds know that they will be welcomed and safe. There are currently 20 locations in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

Safe Harbour locations sign on to three key commitments:

Equitable Treatment for All: Welcoming all clients and/or customers in a respectful manner. If a concern is expressed regarding a lack of respectful treatment, employers and staff take steps to address it.

An Immediate Safe Place: Providing an immediate safe refuge for someone experiencing discrimination in or near the worksite, which may include a place to sit, a glass of water, a phone to use, and access to a list of service providers in the community.

Prepared Employees and Worksites: Preparing all managers and staff to implement these commitments.
